Citibank Debit Card
What exactly is a Citibank debit card? This is a card that allows you to earn AAdvantage miles for every dollar you spend. What you have to do first is enroll a checking account and an American Airlines AAdvantage program account. If you don’t have an account with AAdvantage, Citibank will set one up for you. There are two plans you can choose when setting up an account: Basic or Premium.
The basic account you have can get you 2,000 AAdvantage bonus miles when you enroll, and every time you use spend two dollars with your card Citibank debit card, you earn on AAdvantage mile, and can collect up to 60,000 per year. There is a 25 dollar annual fee, so be aware of that. Make sure you read all the fine print and talk with the representative about any questions you may have before signing anything.
The premium account will get you 4,000 AAdvantage bonus miles when you enroll, and every dollar you spend with your Citibank debit card earns you one AAdvantage mile. You can earn up to 100,000 miles per year. With this account, there is a 65 dollar annual fee, so even though you earn more, you pay more for it in return. These are things to be aware of when you are signing on the dotted line. As always, read the fine print and ask any questions you may have if you don’t understand everything you’re reading.
When using the debit card, you will have to select the credit option, otherwise it will only be charged to debit, thus it voids any miles you may have earned otherwise. There is no interest on any purchases you make with your card, unless it accesses the Checking Plus overdraft protection. If you return any purchases, the miles you earned when buying it will be deducted. So if you want to keep your miles, you will have to keep your purchases.
At the end of your statement period, if you have a negative total mileage because of returns, you won’t see any AAdvantage miles on your summary. The annual fee associated with the Citibank debit card is nonrefundable after sixty days from the enrollment date, so any decisions you make should be done so before this date. Overall, if you fly often, a rewards program such as this would be beneficial to you and any future flights you may have planned.
